Kolkata police widen road, crack whip on illegal parking to clear school traffic mess

KOLKATA: After the ban on parking on Loudon Street, Rawdon Street, Robinson Street, Moira Street, Hungerford Street in the Park Street-Beckbagan zone helped unclog the school-hour traffic snarls, police have turned their attention to AJC Bose Road and Diamond Harbour Road.

For the three schools located at Joka that cater to around 7,000 students, police have initiated several long-term and immediate measures. In multiple meetings with the PWD, the Thakurpukur traffic guard has convinced the department officials to increase the width of DH Road by 2.5 feet on both the flanks. For junior- and middle-school students at Vivekananda Mission School, police, with the help of PWD, have laid paver blocks on the stretch to stop any kind of waterlogging in front of the three institutes. This will also help students at Kendriya Vidyalaya Joka and Gurukul Vidya Mandir.
