Kolkata Police meet Golf Green victim's kin

KOLKATA: A team of officers from Kolkata Police's Detective Department and Anti Rowdy Squad visited the Azadgarh residence of Dipankar Saha - the youth whose family has alleged that police atrocities led to his death - and met his parents on Sunday.

Saha (34) died at MR Bangur Hospital on Friday and his parents lodged a complaint of police atrocity against officers of Golf Green police station.

His parents alleged that cops had picked him up from his home last Sunday and had beaten him, which led to his death. A preliminary post-mortem report revealed injuries on his buttocks. The family demanded a CBI probe in the case and threatened to move court.

On Sunday, BJP and CPM workers demonstrated outside Golf Green police station, demanding justice. Cops, however, have denied the allegations, claiming Saha was picked up with five others on suspicion of drug abuse. The officers also produced CCTV footage that showed Saha had entered the police station at 10.26pm and had left at 10.56pm.
