Kolkata Police bust container theft gang, five held

KOLKATA: Kolkata Police have busted a thriving racket of criminals who used to steal containers from yards in the Port area. Over the last one week, cops arrested five persons and have recovered two empty stolen containers from a yard in Kidderpore's Hyde Road earlier this year.

The two containers were recovered from Haldia and Jangalpur areas. According to police, on September 9, an official of M/S-Empezar Marines Private Limited lodged a complaint with West Port police station claiming two of their large empty containers - each costing more than a lakh - were stolen from a container yard situated at Hyde Road between July 1 and August 29.

Police said, forklift driver Jahangir Alam (39) was the mastermind of the crime. The four others were Syed Hasnain Ahmed (50), Md. Imran Khan (29), Mukhtar Alam Khan and the trailer driver Md. Mursheed (62) who had shifted the stolen containers.
