KOLKATA: The KMC is working on a rejuvenation and redevelopment plan for Durga Pithuri Lane and surroundings to facilitate a transformation of the adjoining neighbourhood, from a congested locality with century-old, dilapidated houses to a planned development with vertical houses and open spaces for greenery. Also, infrastructure, such as water and drainage pipelines, might be revamped. But the challenge for the civic body is to get all the residents on board.
After the two instances of subsidence, which have damaged scores of buildings and made them hazardous for living, the KMC is keen on vertical growth wherever possible, rather than allowing reconstruction of buildings that occupy the entire plot.
