KOLKATA: A 27-year-old mason who fell from a height of 30ft and was impaled on a bamboo pole, which pierced through his pancreas, stomach and a kidney, underwent a marathon repair and reconstruction surgery at the state-run IPGMER. Doctors at the hospital's Trauma Care Centre said the patient, Sushanta Das, was recuperating well and that he would be remaining under close monitoring for now.
The accident took place on August 1, when Das was painting a water tank at a construction site in Rampurhat and accidentally fell on a vertical bamboo pole that penetrated him from the back of his anterior abdominal wall and pierced through his pancreas.
