KOLKATA: International Master Aronyak Ghosh ended his maiden European tour on a happy note earning his first Grandmaster norm. The Kolkata boy missed a podium finish ending fourth in the 23rd Sants International Open in Spain on Sunday, but managed to gain a whopping 14.9 Elo ratings points.
The youngster had a good run over the last one month since winning the Athens of East meet in Madurai which also saw him cross the magic 2500 Elo points needed to become a GM for the first time in his career. Ghosh then decided to travel to Europe to try his luck in earning some GM norms. He finished fourth and third in the first two meets that he took part there before claiming the Obert International tournament in Barcelona a fortnight back.
