Kolkata: IIT-Madras to study tunnel-boring machine effect on Victoria

KOLKATA: IIT-Madras will study the effect of tunnelling on the Victoria Memorial Hall (VMH) and its grounds once tunnel-boring machines (TBMs) start burrowing below the Maidan.

“The board of trustees of VMH has recommended real-time monitoring by the civil engineering department of IIT-Madras once construction of tunnels and the station starts,” Victoria Memorial’s curator Jayanta Sengupta said on Tuesday. IIT-Madras’ civil engineering department is considered as leading experts on the study of vibrations caused by tunnelling.
