Kolkata: Geetashree Sandhya Mukherjee’s journey of songs comes to an end at 90

KOLKATA: Geetashree Sandhya Mukherjee, the veteran singer who made every romantic at heart yearn for never-ending travels in togetherness with ‘Ei path jodi na sesh hoy’, ended her life’s journey at a city hospital on Tuesday. She was 90 and had been hospitalised with Covid a couple of weeks ago.

The singer suffered a sudden cardiac arrest around 7.30pm and could not be revived. CM Mamata Banerjee said: “Her departure creates an eternal void in our world of music and in the hearts of millions of her followers here and in the diaspora. I used to look up to her as my elder sister and this is a grave personal loss to me. She used to be the moving spirit in our Sangeet Akademi.” The CM will cut short her North Bengal trip and return to the city on Wednesday to pay her tribute.
