Kolkata: Empty school bus catches fire on Taratala Flyover; gutted

KOLKATA: A school bus was gutted when it caught fire on Taratala Flyover in Kolkata on Monday.

Police said that the empty bus — which was heading towards Behala — suddenly caught fire around 1.15 pm.

The fire officials are yet to figure out the cause of the fire.

Before a fire engine reached the spot, the bus was completely engulfed by flames.

The flames leapt up and the black smoke filled the air and for which traffic movement along the flyover and Diamond Harbour Road had to be stopped and buses were later diverted through James Long Sarani.

A huge crowd gathered to see if any student was trapped inside but police said that they didn't find anyone inside.

The bursting of tyres in the flames caused panic to some extent.

A huge police contingent was posted on both ends of the flyover.

Within an hour, the fire was controlled by the firemen.
