KOLKATA: A 360-seater fraud call centre operating out of a premium commercial complex in New Town was sealed by Bidhannagar Police in the early hours of Tuesday. Callers posing as Microsoft executives had been duping residents in Germany, USA, Portugal and Czech Republic for the last five years in the pretext of giving tech support and were making them pay through a cryptocurrency trading platform to mask the money trail.
What is more intriguing to the cops is the fact that the company used to store majority of its data on cloud computing, which is currently inaccessible to the investigators. Cops have arrested 10 of their employees — nine of them aged between 19 and 28 — but the directors and other senior officials managed to escape.
