KOLKATA: Several Kolkata colleges have started helplines to address admission-related queries of students applying to under-graduate courses. Some have also created special mail ids where students can mail their admission-related questions.
Although all admission-related details have already been provided on the admission portals of colleges, many applicants still have some queries for which the helplines have been started.
For example, colleges have been receiving calls from students who took ISC and CBSE Class XII examinations this year and will be applying for under-graduate courses. CBSE declared Class XII results on Friday while ISC is yet to publish the results. Worried students and their parents have been calling up colleges to find out if they will get enough time to fill in the forms. Colleges have assured students need not worry.
Seth Anandram Jaipuria College has put in place a helpdesk with a dedicated mail id and a team of professors and shared their mobile numbers along with the time of the day they would be available to take the questions. “We put in place a system to answer all the queries of the applicants. Our team will help out students with all admission-related questions,” said Asok Mukhopadhyay, principal of the college.
At St Xavier’s College, students can call up on the admission helpline between 10am and 2pm on weekdays. At Maulana Azad College, helpline numbers will be active from 10am to 7pm on all working days. Applicants can also mail at online.admission@yahoo.com mentioning the application number. “We have been receiving a lot of calls from students with queries about the admission process. Several CBSE and ISC students have been calling up with queries,” said an official.
Students applying in Lady Brabourne College will be able to mail their queries to a dedicated mail id (see box) to get their doubts cleared. Asutosh College, too, has started two helplines to assist students applying for UG courses.
“A section of the students is anxious because they have not yet received their Class XII results. Some are worried they might not get enough time to apply for UG courses. Through our helpline numbers we are trying to assure them that they will get adequate time,” said the principal of a south Kolkata college.
