Kolkata: Biker dead, 6 injured in 3 accidents

KOLKATA: A youth on a bike was killed and six others were injured in three accidents in the city on Friday.

Neeraj Singh (26), originally from Jharkhand, was in Kolkata possibly for a job interview. He was killed when he rammed a friend's bike into a stationary truck on New Town Main Arterial Road near Westin hotel in the early hours of Friday. His friend, Pintu Das, was riding pillion and was severely injured. Das is currently admitted to NRS Hospital with a fractured collar bone. None had any helmet on, police sources said. Police said the duo was riding from Narkelbagan towards City Centre II. Singh was declared dead on arrival at Bidhannagar Sub-Divisional Hospital.

In another accident, three teens were riding a scooterette without helmets and were injured when an unknown vehicle hit them near Minto Park around 2am. Md Moinuddin (19), who was driving, and pillion rider Arhan Rahman (18) are admitted to SSKM Hospital while the other pillion rider Md Kabir (18) was discharged after first-aid. All are residents of Mominpore. Police said Moinuddin's condition is critical.

Also on Friday, Subrata Mondal (39) and Palash Mondal (28) were injured when a private bus dashed their bike on Brace Bridge-Hyde Road crossing around 9.30am. Subrata was admitted to Joka ESI Hospital with leg injuries while Palash was discharged after first-aid.
