Clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company Kodiak Sciences (KOD) saw its shares jump 178% intraday on Sept. 28, after the company reported stellar results for its primary endpoint in the pivotal Phase 3 DAYBREAK trial in wet AMD for its flagship Zenkuda product, as well as its KSI-501 candidate. Zenkuda is an investigational anti-VEGF eye injection to treat serious retinal vascular diseases.
Zenkuda’s endpoint results are notable because they matched or exceeded those of Aflibercept, marketed as Eylea by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals (REGN). The results also show what clinical profile retina specialists are seeking. Because these drugs are injected directly into the eye, researchers aim to minimize application frequency while ensuring maximum effect.
