KOCHI: In a bizarre incident on the International Women’s Day, a group of three men tried to kill a 15-year-old girl by hitting her with an autorickshaw. The accused included a youth who used to stalk the teenager. The attack happened at Pathalam near Eloor on Tuesday evening.
Police picked up all the accused based on the girl’s complaint. Siva, 18, Karthik, 19, and Selvam, 34, all three hailing from Tamil Nadu and residents of Pathalam, are the accused.
The Class IX student was on her way home from school when the gang came in an autorickshaw from the opposite side around 4pm. They slowed down near her and passed lewd comments at her, police said. The accused also allegedly threw a cigarette stub at her, said police.
The accused went past her but took a U-turn after going a short distance. The girl then saw the vehicle coming in her direction and moved out of the way, quick enough to avoid getting hit.
Police said that Siva had been stalking her for over two years. The accused also proposed to the girl which she rejected, police said. The accused had been harassing her since.
The accused were booked under Sections 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) and 354D (stalking) of the IPC. They were produced before the court and were remanded in judicial custody.
Youth held for abusing minor
Kochi: A 27-year-old man was arrested by City police for allegedly sexually abusing a minor girl.
The accused was arrested by Thrikkakara police on Wednesday. The arrested person has been identified as Dhanashyam of Kanjikuzhi, Cherthala.
Police said that the accused abused the minor girl on multiple occasions. He clicked her pictures in compromising positions and sent them to her through the social media, police said.
The accused was arrested based on the directive by Kochi City deputy commissioner V U Kuriakose. The accused was presented in court and was remanded in judicial custody.
