Kobbie Mainoo sends message to Manchester United teammate after season-ending injury

Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo was quick to show his support for Reds youngster Logan Pye after he revealed that he has had surgery and will miss the rest of the season.

Pye arrived at the club from Sunderland in 2020, joining with striker Joe Hugill. The England youth international full-back made his debut for the U18s in a 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers. Shortly after his first start, he featured for the U21s in an EFL Trophy match at Rochdale.

The defender has struggled for minutes since signing a professional contract with United in July 2021, and he will play no further part in the remainder of this campaign after suffering a season-ending injury.

The 19-year-old, who has played just four times for the U21s this term, took to Instagram to announce that he would be out for the rest of the campaign. Posting a photo of himself in a hospital bed, Pye wrote: "Disappointing way to start the year to end my season early, however the surgery went well and I’ll be back doing what I love."

Several United youngsters commented on his social media post, with Mainoo - who has made two appearances for the first-team - showing his support for his teammate.

The Reds midfielder replied with a heart, with Charlie McNeill and Hugill also commenting on the picture.

Pye has made five appearances for the U21s since joining United, but has featured on 35 occasions for the U18s. He played twice in the Reds' run to FA Youth Cup glory last season and was an unused substitute in the final.
