‘Knifeman’ falls to ground in shocking Taser arrest in Tooting high street

This is the shocking moment a man thought to be carrying a knife on a south London high street is Tasered to the ground after charging at police officers.

In shocking mobile footage police are seen pointing a Taser at a white man outside Tooting Station in London Road at about 7pm on Tuesday.

Scotland Yard said the suspect, in his 50s, charged at officers with the blade.

A loud crack is heard as the officer fires the Taser as hundreds of witnesses gather around the busy shopping parade.

The suspect looks down at his chest before screaming in pain and collapsing to the ground.

Another officer appears to kick away a bladed article before moving in to cuff the man.

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said police were called to reports of a man carrying a knife outside Tooting Railway Station.

She added: “When officers arrived, the man ran towards them with a knife.

“Police discharged a Taser as the man was detained. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of an offensive weapon.

“The knife has been recovered.

“The man, who is aged in his 50s, was treated for minor injuries. No one else was injured.

“He remains in custody at a south London police station.”
