Knicks big man Mitchell Robinson can be added to the long list of players already impressed with Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama through the start of his NBA career. But the praise Robinson sang about Wembanyama after the two met on Wednesday certainly ranks among the most noteworthy.
“He is a great player. He is one of the best in the league right now especially with his height. He can put it on the floor, shoot it, it was going to be a challenge, but we had to do what we had to do,” Robinson said after Wednesday’s matchup, a 126–105 New York win, per Spurs writer Paul Garcia.
Robinson touting Wembanyama as one of the “best in the league right now” is certainly noteworthy. And to the 25-year-old’s credit, he was excellent at defending Wembanyama in this game.
The 7’ 5” No. 1 overall pick went 0-for-6 when Robinson was the primary defender on him, according to ESPN.
Wembanyama finished the night with just 14 points on 4-of-14 shooting while missing all four of his attempts from three-point range.
