Klay Thompson‘s future beyond this season is far from clear. The veteran sharpshooter is in the final year of his deal with the Golden State Warriors and will become an unrestricted free agent in 2024.
Thompson has struggled throughout the first quarter of the season despite showing some flashes of improvement.
According to Shams Charania, who was speaking on a recent episode of FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back,” Thompson doesn’t have a deal on the table. Charania noted how the veteran turned down a two-year $48 million offer during the offseason, which has led to a stalemate.
“They’ve lost four of their last six,” Charania said. “They’ve lost six of their last 10. And nine of their last 13. Last night, Andrew Wiggins, Klay Thompson, and Kevon Looney were all benched. … His (Thompson’s) future has been in question. … I’m told that the Warriors offered a deal, two years at $48 million in an extension to Klay Thompson before the season. And now, there’s no deal. He’s going to play it out. They’re going to play it out.”
Thompson is averaging 15.4 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists, and is shooting 39.7% from the field and 34.3% from 3-point range. His struggles have been well-documented throughout the season and even led to him being benched down the stretch in the team’s Dec. 12 loss to the Phoenix Suns.

The Warriors will have a tough decision to make at the end of the season. Multiple young players are currently earning bigger roles within Steve Kerr‘s rotation, and that will only serve to complicate Thompson’s future with the franchise further.
