Klay Thompson has endured a rough start to the new NBA season. The four-time champion has struggled to replicate his dead-eye shooting form, hitting 34.7% of his 3-point shots. The Golden State Warriors have multiple players who have struggled out of the gates, making Thompson’s lull more noticeable than it probably would have been.
When speaking to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Thompson noted how his struggles haven’t affected his confidence. In fact, he believes that once he breaks out of his current slump, there will be a prolonged period of high-level production that follows.
“If history shows us anything, it’s most definitely coming,” Thompson said. “What’s the point of panicking and pressing? I’ve been through this more than a decade. It’s hard. Basketball is hard. I’m not going to lose faith or confidence. One thing I’ve proved is the resiliency within me. I’ll come back and have a great month. First 10 games I didn’t shoot it as I’m capable, so the next 10 games I’ll be lights out.”
Despite his offensive slump, there have been moments where Thompson’s defensive versatility has been integral to the Warriors’ overall defensive scheme. Steve Kerr has given the veteran wing a new role on that end of the court this season, and so far, the results have been encouraging.

Of course, Thompson will be judged on his complete performance across the floor. As such, we should continue to hope that he re-discovers the 43.6% 3-point shooting we saw from him last season. The Warriors need their best talents operating at a high level. Fortunately, there are over 70 games left in the season, so there’s plenty of time to figure things out.
