A kitten was found abandoned in a gutter in the pouring rain with "its teeth smashed in."
The four-week-old kitten was found just off County Road in Walton, by a volunteer from the County Cat Rescue. Maria Miller, who runs the sanctuary, said the kitten called Star was found in a gutter during heavy rain and had "blood pouring from its mouth"..
Star was checked over by Maria who said the cat had "its teeth smashed in" and its gums were "detached from its jaw". The kitten also suffered a broken jaw which has now fused shut and five months on she needs life-changing surgery or she will not survive.

Maria told the ECHO: "The cat's mouth has slowly closed over, fixed shut, and has to be syringe fed. She can't eat or drink properly and because her jaw was not treated it has fused into a sideways position.
"Star is so sweet but she could she can't get the nutrients she needs and the possibility of her starving to death because of a mindless act of cruelty is ridiculous."
County Cat Rescue has been quoted £6,000 for the surgery due to the complicated nature of the injury. Maria said they can not afford to pay due to the rising cost of living crisis and said Star is "running out of time".
Maria who has run the rescue for three years said: "When we found her she was shaking so much she could not move and she only weighed four ounces. Star deserves a second chance.
"If you hurt an animal, especially a defenceless one that says everything you need to know about a person. She was so small she could fit in the palm of your hands so to attack something so innocent is just disgusting."
County Cat Rescue is raising money for Star's surgery if you would like to donate more information can be found here.
