An appeal has been issued after a kitten was found stranded in a bin bag next to an Ayrshire railway track.
The Scottish SPCA is searching for information after a black, semi long-haired kitten was discovered in Newmilns.
Scotland’s animal welfare charity was alerted to the incident after a member of the public found the kitten abandoned next to a disused railway line on Friday, September 16. The poor animal was covered in fleas and maggots' eggs.
SSPCA inspector Laura McIntyre said: “This male kitten was found abandoned in a black bin bag, and is approximately 10 weeks old.
“He is very thin and has severe anaemia. He also had a high flea infestation and was covered in maggot eggs when he was found.
“Unfortunately, this kitten is not microchipped, and was not wearing a collar when he was found.
“We understand that vet bills can cause worry but this is not the way to give up an animal.
“If anyone recognises this kitten or has any information about this incident, we would ask that they contact our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
