Kirstie Allsopp defends UK's frosty reception to Meghan and Harry after Queen's death

Kirstie Allsopp has addressed the public's 'frosty' reception to Meghan Markle after she and husband Prince Harry returned to the UK to say goodbye to Queen Elizabeth following her untimely death on September 8.

Mourners were divided as they lined up to greet the royal family - with some of the crowds purposely ignoring Meghan and Harry as they joined Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Kate, in a rare reunion following Her Majesty's death.

Meghan and Harry donned all-black ensembles at Windsor Castle on Saturday as they paid their respects to the Queen by viewing flowers left by grieving mourners.

The couple, who departed from their royal duties in 2020, and shared a bombshell interview about the Royal family with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, also greeted thousands of mourners who queued up to meet the members of the Royal family and share their condolences.

While Princess of Wales Kate received a glowing reception from mourners, the crowd appeared to be much more divided in opinion when it came to Meghan.

Following the divide in opinion on Meghan's return to the UK following the Queen's death, Kirstie, 51, took to Twitter to share her thoughts, admitting that she has had to 'bite her tongue' after watching back some of the footage from Windsor Castle.

Kirstie said she had to force herself from hitting back on social media after some Twitter users sent 'spikey' tweets about the late Queen and King Charles III.

The Location, Location, Location presenter tweeted: "When it’s tempting to send a spikey tweet to those being critical or mocking of our Queen, and our new King with, within days of her death I just think 'what would the Queen do?' it’s been said again and again that she found positives in everyone, HM set an extraordinary example."

After Kirstie's tweet garnered much attention, another Twitter user clapped back, saying the same respect should have been shown for Meghan and Harry while they grieve the Queen.

"I hope her influence will stop people being so hateful towards Meghan and Harry… but I won’t hold my breath," they tweeted.

However, Kirstie seemingly didn't quite agree with the Twitter user, and suggested that the way in which the pair have been received by the British public since their return to the UK is their own fault.

Kirstie's scathing reply comes after Meghan was recently praised for her resilience after a woman in the crowd at Windsor Castle was filmed mocking the former Suits actress, by lowering her head to ignore her and avoid shaking hands.

The now viral video then saw the woman smirking at her friend - who had greeted Meghan with a kind smile - after she walked by.
