Kirkcudbright is set to be all lit up this weekend.
The town’s Festival of Light begins tonight and promises a fantastic spectacle featuring light installations, displays and workshops, as well as a community lantern parade on Saturday.
The Soaperie Gardens will once again be the centre piece with stunning light displays, with town centre properties also lit up for the occasion. It’s free but Kirkcudbright Summer Festivities ask those that can afford to donate to do so to help fund next year’s festival.
The festival will run over three days, with a lantern parade starting from the gardens at 7.30pm on Saturday. The parade will be led by Tony Bonning, well known local musician, poet, children’s entertainer and most recently adventurer and philanthropist, who has just returned from walking around Scotland with his horse Chief – who will join him on the parade.
Also joining in the fun will be entertainer Verity Power, who will treat the crowds to her amazing LED poi during the parade and will put on a fire show as a finale to the festival. In addition to the entertainment, hundreds of families will take to the streets with their handmade lanterns.
And on Friday night the Dark Space Planetarium will be exploring what is visible on a clear night and keeping everyone up to date with space related headlines. The event starts at 7pm and tickets are available from www.darkspaceplanetarium.org/events.
