Kirkcudbright Parish Players are finally bringing the fun and nonsense of pantomime back to the town.
Three years after their highly successful run of Treasure Island before the coronavirus pandemic, their latest show at the parish church hall is inspired by Danish fairy tale writer Hans Christian Andersen who wrote stories including The Little Mermaid and The Ugly Duckling.
The show is – very loosely – based on The Tinder Box, the story of a soldier who braves a dark cave and a huge dog “with eyes as big as saucers” to gain a tinder box with magical powers. Doesn’t much sound like a pantomime? Oh yes it is!
Add in music, corny jokes, four confusing guards, the return of a certain well-known local dame – and lots and lots of pizzas – and all the ingredients are there for a fun show.
Performances of The Magic Tinder Box take place at 7.30pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with a matinee at 2.30pm on Saturday.
Tickets cost £6 and £3 and are available from Thomsons newsagent in Kirkcudbright.
