Plans are being made for a Royal celebration in Kirkcudbright.
The town’s summer festivities team is working on a street party on June 5 to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Festivities chairman, John Blaikie, said: “We are planning it along similar lines to the one we had 10 years ago.
“There are two young lads, Kieran Chisholm and Fraser Kemp, who work with us and we are letting them run with it. They’re full of enthusiasm and ideas so we’ll see what they come up with.
“We’ll be shutting off St Cuthbert Street, having tables and chairs out for people, putting the bunting up and hopefully everyone will have a great time.
“We have fairground rides and entertainment for both kids and adults with bands playing.
“We’re hoping to use the new stage with the canopy for children’s story telling and we’ll have a bigger stage for the bands up near the castle.
“We’re also hoping to arrange a children’s fancy dress parade as that is normally during the children’s festival but it is no longer taking place.”
Kirkcudbright isn’t the only place planning to celebrate Queen Elizabeth spending 70 years on the throne.
Dalbeattie Civic Daze have organised a platinum picnic in Colliston Park on June 5.
And people in Balmaclellan are planning an afternoon tea and barbecue at the village hall for the same date.
Like many groups, Kirkcudbright Summer Festivities have been limited in their activities over the past couple of years due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, a full programme is planned for 2022, starting off with the first farmers’ market on March 27.
The Scottish nights, country fair and floodlit tattoo are also set to return.
John added: “We are hoping to have a full programme of events this year, unless we are told we can’t.
“We are celebrating our 50th anniversary, just a year late.”
