Kirkcudbright hostelry celebrating after being named Scotland's top gin bar

A Kirkcudbright hostelry is toasting a national success.

The Masonic Arms has been named Scotland’s best gin bar at the Scottish Licensed Trade News Awards.

The bar, run by husband and wife Simon and LJ Jackson, currently stocks nearly 300 different gins.

LJ said: “There is quite a mix there – when you come into our lounge bar it really is looking into a shop window.

“It’s an absolutely fantastic accolade and it’s another reason for people to come to Kirkcudbright and to Dumfries and Galloway.

“I think the reason we are the best is we have such an eclectic mix and we tap into what you can’t get elsewhere.

“We have good knowledge of the product we’re selling. Anybody can buy a bottle of gin from the supermarket but we offer something different.

“It’s a whole new experience in nice surroundings. We have trained staff who are knowledgeable and know which path to point someone in for their taste and their pallet because there’s so many tastes out there – and you can convert a non gin drinker.”
