Kirkcudbright garden to open to the public to raise funds for charity

The Limes in Kirkcudbright will be open to visitors on Sunday as part of the Scotland’s Gardens Scheme.

It is a renown one-and-a-quarter acre plantsman’s garden with a variety of different plant habitats.

Visitors can expect to see a large number of unusual and exciting plants in flower at this time of year and it is soon to feature in BBC Scotland’s Beechgrove Garden.

The abundance of spring flowers in large swathes throughout the garden include hellebores, cyclamen, crocus, anemones and rare narcissus cultivars.

This wonderful display is enhanced with some particularly noteworthy early flowering shrubs such as the white flowering currant and daphnes.

Plant enthusiasts will wish to seek out the erythroniums. Closely related to tulips with common names including dog-tooth violets, fawn and trout lilies they are looking good this year.

The Limes will be open from 2pm to 5pm this Sunday. It can be found on the A711 as you go out of Kirkcudbright towards Dundrennan.

Entry is £5 for adults and free for children. Proceeds will go to Friends of Kirkcudbright Swimming Pool and Scottish Garden Scheme charities. For further information please visit www.scotlandsgardens.org
