Kirkcudbright Food Festival 2022 passes the taste test

Food, glorious food took centre stage at Kirkcudbright over the weekend.

The town’s annual food festival was held on Saturday and Sunday, featuring demonstrations from local chefs and a farmers’ market.

And organisers Kirkcudbright Summer Festivities were delighted with how things went.

Chairman John Blaikie said: “The weather wasn’t that great but it didn’t stop people coming out.

“One of the stallholders thought she’d baked enough for two days but after the first day she’d nearly sold out and had to go home to bake some more. The following day she had nothing left by two o’clock.

“A lot of the stallholders had a good weekend so we’re pleased for them.

“The demonstrations were good – for a few of them it was their first time demonstrating but they did really well. They came in a wee bit nervous but Tom Kirkpatrick was compering and put them at their ease so it worked out really well.”

Among the chefs demonstrating were Ed Pook from Mr Pook’s Kitchen in Castle Douglas, Chris Haney from Kirkcudbright’s Selkirk Arms and pastry chef Anup Domanic from Gather near Gatehouse of Fleet.

The Summer Festivities are holding their next farmers market in Harbour Square on Sunday, November 27.

And they will also be holding a craft fair on December 10 to coincide with Santa’s arrival in Kirkcudbright by boat before he joins in the Christmas fun with Greyfriars Church.
