Kirkcudbright Academy technical department refurbishment delayed

A refurbishment of the technical department at Kirkcudbright Academy has been delayed.

Work on the £214,000 project was due to be finished by the end of March.

However, a report for members of the education committee reveals completion has slipped into the 2023/24 financial year.

A total of £50,000 of the money set aside for the project will be spent by the end of March with the rest in the next financial year.

There has also been delay to work to create a nursery at Springholm Nursery.

Although the internal work is due to be finished on time, the £250,000 external works have been delayed with the majority of the cash being spent by the end of 2023/24.

Members of the education committee will be asked to agree to the reallocated budgets on January 26.

A total of £500,000 has been set aside to refurbish Castle Douglas High School’s technical department by the end of 2024/25.

Other major Stewartry projects on the list of capital programmes include nearly £1 million to refurbish Creetown Primary, most of which will be spent in 2024/25.
