The Herbstreit family is one known for their die-hard love for Ohio State football.
Kirk, the dad and football analyst, went to Ohio State back in the day and ended his career, which spanned from 1989 to 1992, with 2,263 passing yards and 5 touchdowns. He had a career-high 1,904 passing yards a senior.
Kirk’s son, Zak Herbstreit, played at Ohio State this season as a tight end.
One of his other sons, Chase, finished up high school at St. Xavier in Cincinnati, and he’s committed to Michigan. Now, that doesn’t sound right, right? Well, Kirk broke down why.
He made an appearance on the popular Barstool Sports podcast, Padron My Take.
“A lot of these guys are in a wait-and-see approach, so guys like my son Chase, who was fighting for those last couple spots for a scholarship or potentially a PWO, which would be a preferred walk-on, he’s kind of in that area where he’s fighting,” Herbstreit said. “Sherrone Moore and his staff believe, and I think they saw his competitive spirit and his fire and what he did on the field this year to give him this opportunity,” he continued with.
You go where you’re valued, that’s true basically everywhere, but Herbstreit, who wasn’t a star commitment for the Wolverines, isn’t likely to see the field often during his time there.
However, the offer is more than he got from Ohio State, so no one can really fault Chase for his decision to head up north.
