Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins was ruled out of Week 8’s game vs. NFC North rival the Packers with an ankle injury.
Coach Kevin O’Connell told reporters that “based on the initial examination,” it appears that Cousins suffered an Achilles injury, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. He is expected to undergo an MRI to get an official diagnosis.
Cousins was shuffling backwards while looking for a teammate to throw a pass to, and he appeared to injure his ankle when he planted his right foot. Therefore, this was ruled as a non-contact injury.
He hobbled on one foot to the sideline to get reviewed further. Then, Cousins was carted off the field, which is when the Vikings determined the quarterback would be out for the remainder of the contest.
Cousins hasn’t been officially diagnosed yet, but the injury appeared to happen to his right ankle.

Cousins hasn’t been on the NFL injury report list since the 2013 season, ESPN’s Bill Barnwell stated.
Before leaving Sunday’s game, Cousins completed 23-of-31 passes for 274 yards and two touchdowns, leading Minnesota to a 24–10 lead over Green Bay.
Rookie quarterback Jaren Hall made his NFL debut replacing Cousins in the fourth quarter.
