Kirby Smart shares injury updates ahead of Georgia-South Carolina

Georgia has been without key starters so far this season. Leading returning rusher Daijun Edwards has been out with an MCL strain, and leading returning receiver Ladd McConkey has been sidelined with a back injury. Starting safety Javon Bullard went down with an ankle injury in Georgia’s win over Ball State last week.

Smart listed Edwards and defensive tackle Christen Miller (cervical strain) as available for Saturday. McConkey is day-to-day. Bullard will miss some practice time this week and his status for Saturday is in doubt.

“I have not seen Javon yet because of Sunday being off and then today coming in,” Smart said. As far as where he is, probably won’t know until Wednesday’s practice whether he’s going to be able to go or not. We’ve had guys in that position with that similar injury be able to play. But I really have no clue until we get further into the week.”

While you can’t overlook an SEC matchup, South Carolina doesn’t pose as big of a threat as the latter part of Georgia’s conference schedule does. The Bulldogs will need the starters back when matchups with Kentucky, Missouri, Ole Miss and Tennessee roll around.
