Kippford’s RNLI crew has a new member – and they’re a real dummy.
The volunteer crew received a donation from consultancy business DNA Stream.
Managing director Andy Milner bought a life-size rescue dummy to be used for training exercises on the lifeboat.
The Guildford-based IT consultancy employs one of the Kippford crew, John Horne, and wanted to support the team.
Andy said: “We’re all really proud of John and the volunteering he does with the RNLI.
“The business was keen to be able to do a bit more to support John and the station as a whole and I’m delighted that we could assist with something so practical.
“It was lovely to be able to visit Kippford in person to hand over the dummy.”
The crew carries out training all year round, with a number of exercises used to simulate a person in water. The life size dummy will allow those sessions to be much more realistic.
The man overboard mannequins are made by Ruth Lee Ltd, weigh 40kg and measure 1.8m. They are designed to float, allowing crews to practice approaching and assisting an unconscious casualty.
“We know that by providing our crew with the best possible training it can save lives when the skills are needed for real.”
