On Oct. 18, Steph Curry nailed a game-winning shot for the Golden State Warriors. It might only be preseason, but the Warriors have looked impressive throughout their first four games and remain unbeaten. Curry’s game-winner came courtesy of an after timeout sideline out-of-bounds play, hinting at a potential “go-to” action during the regular season.
Curry had 30 points in the Warriors’ win over the Sacramento Kings. While addressing the media, Kings head coach Mike Brown spoke glowingly of Curry and his impact. Sacramento tested multiple defenders on Curry but was unable to slow him.
“As we know, Steph’s a great player,” Brown said. “We threw multiple defenders at him tonight. You’ve got to give him credit. He shot 8 for 12 from the three-point line. I don’t know how many he made in the fourth. He also made a couple of really, really tough ones. … Great player in Steph, who made some big 3s down the stretch. Gotta give him credit for that. … We weren’t gonna double-team him or anything like that. You know, man up (man to man coverage,) see if we can try to stop him, and we didn’t.”
Golden State defeated the Kings in a seven-game series to open their 2023 playoff run. The Warriors have won back-to-back preseason games against their Northern California rivals. Sacramento will likely be a thorn in the Warriors’ side throughout the upcoming season as it improves under Brown.
Golden State has one preseason game remaining. It will face the San Antonio Spurs on October 20, where they will potentially get their first look at rookie phenom Victor Wembanyama. Considering their lack of size throughout the rotation, it will be interesting to see how Steve Kerr‘s team deals with a 7-foot-4 threat.
