He may be enjoying a vintage acting career but a review of hygiene standards at Idris Elba’s wine bar is proving hard to swallow.
The Luther actor’s swanky nightspot, Porte Noire, has been slapped with one-star score following a spot-check by council inspectors.
Idris opened the North London venue in 2021 to glittering fanfare. Dishes on the restaurant’s menu include slow-cooked beef cheeks and burnt matcha cheesecake , while the cheapest bottle of bubbly sets diners back £62.
But after a check by Camden Council on May 18, inspectors called for “major improvement” on “hygienic food handling” and “management of food safety”.
The report noted the “cleanliness and condition of facilities and building” was “generally satisfactory”.
East London-born Idris – who has his own Petite Porte bubbly brand – co-owns the posh spot in King’s Cross with wine connoisseur David Faber.
Speaking ahead of the grand opening in 2021, the actor said: “I’m really excited for the bar. It’s one thing to have a champagne and now to have a bar – where people celebrate and drink that champagne – it’s great.”
It seems customers are yet to learn of the poor score, with one raving: “Great food menu and really fantastic service.”
Another said: “The food was top-notch and the ambience was fabulous.”
Idris has also appeared in Marvel’s Thor series and had been tipped as a future James Bond before saying he was put off the role by a racist backlash.
The 50-year-old is currently starring in Apple TV aviation drama Hijack and returns to cinemas next year as Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
Idris and Porte Noire were approached for comment.
