King's Birthday Honours: Vicky McClure among 12 Nottinghamshire figures to be recognised

Vicky McClure is among the Nottinghamshire figures on the King's Birthday Honours list. The actress and campaigner is one of 12 people living or working in our county to be recognised by King Charles III for their accomplishments and service to different aspects of life.

The Wollaton-born Line of Duty star has been recognised for her services to drama and charity, due to her impressive dementia campaigning. She has previously highlighted how music therapy can help those with the disease through her own Dementia Choir.

Explaining she had received the honour to support the "great city of Nottingham", Vicky acknowledged the MBE had followed some of the darkest days in her hometown's history. "It’s been a devastating time in Nottingham and attending the vigil on Thursday to remember Barnaby, Grace and Ian, their families and friends reminded us all to look after one another," Vicky said.

"I received this honour to continue supporting the great city of Nottingham, people living with dementia and the causes I am extremely proud to be a part of and represent."

Other notable people from the city and wider county also received different levels of honours. Anthony May, who was Chief Executive at Nottinghamshire County Council before moving to become Chief Executive Officer of Nottingham University Hospitals, was honoured with an OBE for services to Local Government.

Anthony said: “I am humbled to have been awarded an OBE for my work in local government. I want to dedicate this honour to all those who work in local government, serving their communities, day in day out.

“My focus now is on my new job at NUH, but I am proud of my career in local government, and sincerely grateful to those colleagues who took the time and trouble to nominate me.”

Ben Bradley, MP for Mansfield and leader of Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “As leader of Nottinghamshire County Council, it was an honour to work alongside Anthony and I can’t think of anyone in local government more deserving to receive such an honour. Anthony has given decades of public service to communities across Nottinghamshire which has rightly been recognised."

Businessman Sir John Peace, the Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, was honoured as a Commander of the Victorian Order (CVO), a dynastic order of knighthood established in 1896 by Queen Victoria. The full list of honours is below.
