King Charles will head to Scotland after Christmas in a departure from one of his mother’s traditions.

Historically, the late Queen would stay at Sandringham until after Accession Day on February 6.

The date marks the anniversary of her father, King George VI’s death and the day when the Queen ascended to the throne in 1952.

The Daily Mail reported that Charles will continue with his existing practice of spending much of the festive season at his Scottish home of Birkhall.

He will travel there early in the New Year and remain there for several weeks, sources told the paper.

It means a shorter Christmas season and fewer royal shoots. Like the late Queen, he will work every day on his red boxes every day except Christmas day.

Royals making their way to Sandringham are expected to accompany the King and Queen Consort Camilla to the morning service at Sandringham Church.

William and Kate are expected to bring all three of their children to the service for the first time: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Prince Edward and Sophie, the Countess of Wessex are also expected to be there, as is the disgraced Duke of York, Prince Andrew.

However, Prince Harry and Meghan will not be at the gathering and will be celebrating Christmas with Meghan’s mother Doria.

It comes after the couple’s explosive Netflix, Harry and Meghan, aired, which lifted a lid on their experience of royal life before stepping down as working royals.
