King Charles receives muted response to ice cap and Ukraine warnings in Congress speech

King Charles received several standing ovations during his speech to Congress Tuesday, but he got a more muted response when he brought up two world issues.

When the monarch called for the same “unyielding resolve” to be shown for Ukraine as that in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, a number of members on the Republican side of the chamber did not rise to their feet with others and clap.

The King also stressed the importance of Nato, stating, “From the depths of the Atlantic to the disastrously melting ice-caps of the Arctic, the commitment and expertise of the United States Armed Forces and its allies lie at the heart of Nato, pledged to each other’s defence, protecting our citizens and interests, keeping North Americans and Europeans safe from our common adversaries.”

Reporters inside the room noted a muted response from some Republicans as Charles highlighted the importance of nature, which he argued provided the foundation for prosperity and national security.

Charles received a standing ovation with loud cheers from lawmakers when he hailed “checks and balances” for the executive branch in what appeared to be a subtle swipe at Trump.
