- King Charles quoted Sir Keir Starmer in his speech to US Congress after President Donald Trump’s repeated criticism of the prime minister.
- “As my Prime Minister said last month ‘Ours is an indispensable partnership,’” Charles said Tuesday. “‘We must not disregard everything that has sustained us for the last 80 years. Instead, we must build on it’.”
- The King also mentioned Nato after Trump’s relentless criticism of its allies, with the King stating, “unyielding resolve is needed for the defence of Ukraine and her most courageous people – it is needed in order to secure a truly just and lasting peace” and the stressed the importance of Nato.”
- He continued, “From the depths of the Atlantic to the disastrously melting ice-caps of the Arctic, the commitment and expertise of the United States Armed Forces and its allies lie at the heart of Nato, pledged to each other’s defence, protecting our citizens and interests, keeping North Americans and Europeans safe from our common adversaries.”
- Charles received several standing ovations during his speech, including when he mentioned “checks and balances” for the executive branch.
