Princes William and Harry shocked crowds at Windsor Castle with a surprise reunion as the princes and their wives joined forces for a Royal walkabout yesterday.
Harry and Meghan were a surprise addition to the walkabout on Saturday, drawing gasps and cheers from the crowd, who had only been expecting William and Kate.
The four, who had not been seen in public together for more than two years, appeared to have been united in their grief, putting old arguments aside, at least for the time being.
Both couples emerged from a black Audi later in the afternoon to cheers from the crowd before spending about 40 minutes shaking hands, and inspecting floral tributes from well-wishers.
William and Harry were seen to exchange a few words as they arrived, while Kate and Meghan looked on silently before going to meet the crowds.
William and Kate spoke to mourners on one side, Harry and Meghan on the other.
The four then left, with William driving and Harry and Meghan in the back, heading in the direction of Frogmore Cottage where the Sussexes have been staying.
According to a source at the palace, it was William, the new Prince of Wales, who extended the olive branch to Harry following a conversation with the King.
Harry and Meghan were duly asked to join Kate and William on the walkabout and the Sussexes accepted.
William reportedly felt it was important that the four of them reconvene and show unity at what has been an emotional time for the family.
The walkabout was slightly delayed. It had been due to start around 4.30pm but was delayed until 5.15pm to give the Sussexes time to get ready.
The reunion came after the King used his first address to the nation as Monarch to include a peace offering to Harry and Meghan.
The King said: 'I want also to express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas.'
The King, 73, has never abandoned hope of rekindling his relationship with his youngest son, following the couple’s move to America.
Well-wishers passed the couples bouquets and single red roses as they walked around floral tributes and spoke to the crowds. Harry was seen to place a tender hand on Meghan's back during repeated shouts of 'Harry' and 'Meghan' from the crowd.
