King Charles has marked St George’s Day by appointing three distinguished members of the House of Lords to the ancient and prestigious Order of the Garter.

The honour, one of Britain’s most senior and oldest, has been bestowed upon historian and former journalist Lord Peter Hennessy, former cabinet secretary Lord Augustine Thomas O’Donnell, and former chief justice Lord Ian Burnett.
