King Charles III's coronation might cause Manchester United fixture chaos

Manchester United and fellow Premier League sides could face more fixture chaos this season after plans for King Charles III's coronation were announced. The ceremony to crown the Monarch will be held at Westminster Abbey on Saturday, May 6 next year - right at the end of the domestic campaign.

Following the Queen's death last month, all Premier League games that following weekend were postponed as a mark of respect for the long-serving Monarch, while United then saw their follow-up showdown with bitter rivals Leeds United cancelled due to policing concerns.

As things stand, dates and times for matchday 34 are yet to be confirmed but, should it have a similar impact from when Queen Elizabeth II passed away, three London sides at home that weekend are West Ham, Tottenham and Fulham. United are due to play the Hammers at the London Stadium unless coronation plans prompt a cancellation.

A statement on the plans read: "Buckingham Palace is pleased to announce that the coronation of His Majesty The King will take place on Saturday 6th May in 2023. The coronation ceremony will take place at Westminster Abbey, London, and will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury. The ceremony will see His Majesty King Charles III crowned alongside the Queen Consort."

The Mirror requested more information from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), but at this stage they were told it was too early to offer guidance for supporters. However, discussions are due to be held over the coming weeks and a plan will be mapped out in conjunction with the Premier League.
