King Charles III enjoys the same drink every day 'before dinner'

King Charles III enjoys the same drink daily 'before dinner', according to one of his friends. Count Tibor Kalnoky also revealed that the King travels with a special glass for his daily drink when he travels.

The 74-year-old monarch met the count whilst travelling in Romania, with Tibor setting him up with the perfect house for a royal. The King then bought a small country house in the Eastern European spot where he spent his time relaxing, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Appearing on a Channel 4 show, Count Tibor opened up on his relationship with Charles. He said: "Charles discovered this very unique corner of Europe and has been coming to this place every year.

"I showed him the place and he said it was everything he had been looking for. We spent some time renovating the whole thing."

The Count also spilled the name of the nightly drink he enjoyed when he stayed in his house in Viscri, Transylvania, "every night before dinner". Tibor said: "He likes a martini before dinner, that's for sure."

It is reported that King Charles always makes sure his menu preferences are known beforehand every time he travels. This arrangement includes bringing his own glass to drink a premixed martini before dinner, wherever he is.

Queen Elizabeth on the other hand preferred a different tipple and opted for a gin and Dubonnet instead. Dubonnet is a sweet, wine-based aperitif consisting of herbs and spices.

Speaking prior to the Queen's death, former royal chef Darren McGrady explained: "She doesn't wake up in the morning and have a large gin and tonic."

He explained the monarch had a glass of her favourite German sweet wine "just in the evening". He said: "She certainly doesn't drink four glasses a day."
