King Charles giggles at overexcited little girl who loses her cool live on air

King Charles III has visited Wales for the first time as monarch - and was left giggling at an overexcited little girl. The new King started his tour by attending a service of prayer and reflection for the life of the Queen at Llandaff Cathedral in Cardiff.

Charles arrived by helicopter with the Queen Consort and travelled by state limousine in bright sunshine to the service, which was also attended by Prime Minister Liz Truss and leading figures from Wales. Once they emerged out of the cathedral, the new King and Queen were greeted by a member of the sunday school, Kiera, who completely stole the show

Kiera presented Camilla with a posy - then the Queen Consort started shaking hands and speaking to her mum, Chrissy.

The BBC presenters who were watching the live images explained that the schoolgirl was born in Wales to American parents and had only just become a British citizen.

The presenter said: "She was really excited yesterday and she was really excited this morning too. She's got her favourite shoes and dress on for the occasion, apparently."

While her mum was talking to Camilla, the adorable youngster grabbed the Queen Consort's hand so she could give her a shake, while a giggling King Charles watched on.

Camilla bent down to speak to the youngster but she turned away and shyly hid behind her mum.

Perhaps fed up with the cermeonial nature of their meeting, Kiera then started to walk off - with Charles appearing to find the situation rather amusing.

The laughing King then shook hands with the girl's mum, who started having a conversation with both royals.

However, the little girl was clearly not in the mood and started trying to get the attention of her mother, who was trying to speak to the King and Queen.

Kiera then pulled away from her mum and stopped holding her hand as she hilariously began shouting and throwing her arms out.

As Charles and Camilla headed off, the young girl could be seen walking around in the background. and pointing at something.

"What a moment for that little girl as the King and Queen Consort come out into the blazing sunshine," said the BBC presenter.

A booming gun salute fired from Cardiff Castle was heard across the Welsh capital when the King and Queen Consort first arrived.

Cheering schoolchildren and members of the public lined the royal couple’s route to the cathedral.

Among the congregation were Prime Minister Liz Truss and leading figures from Wales including First Minister Mark Drakeford and Robert Buckland, Secretary of State for Wales.

After the service, King Charles and Queen Camilla greeted well-wishers who had gathered outside and were waving little Welsh flags.

Most of them were schoolchildren - and the delight and awe could be seen on their faces as the royal couple walked down the line and spoke to almost every one of them.
