A Jamaican delegation led by Culture Minister Olivia Grange has arrived in London to submit a petition to King Charles III seeking legal guidance on whether Britain has an obligation to provide redress for slavery in Jamaica.

The petition, due to be lodged on Monday, 7 September, asks the King, in his capacity as Jamaica's head of state, to refer three questions to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council under powers contained in the Judicial Committee Act 1833. The committee can provide an advisory opinion on legal questions referred to it.
