Princess Eugenie is expecting her third child with husband Jack Brooksbank this summer. The 36-year-old princess announced the pregnancy on Instagram on Monday morning posting a photograph of her two sons August and Ernest holding an ultrasound image alongside the caption "Baby Brooksbank due 2026."
Buckingham Palace confirmed the news in a formal statement saying the King had been informed and was delighted. The palace said the couple's two boys, August aged five and Ernest aged two, were very excited to welcome a new sibling into the family, Sky News reported.
The new baby will be born 15th in line to the throne and will not hold an HRH title. As the niece of King Charles III, Princess Eugenie’s growing family continues to draw public interest. The arrival will also move the Duke of Edinburgh to 16th place in the line of succession. The child will be the 15th great-grandchild of the late Queen Elizabeth II and the third to be born since her death in 2022. The baby will also be the fifth grandchild of the former Duke and Duchess of York, following the birth of Princess Beatrice’s daughter, Athena Mapelli Mozzi, in January last year.
The palace announcement comes at a complicated moment for the family. Eugenie's father Andrew was arrested in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office over allegations that he shared sensitive information with convicted paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew denies any wrongdoing. In November last year the King stripped Andrew of his prince title, his HRH style and his dukedom because of his association with Epstein.
Buckingham Palace's decision to issue a warm formal statement welcoming the pregnancy signals continued royal support for Eugenie personally regardless of the circumstances surrounding Andrew. Eugenie married Jack Brooksbank at Windsor Castle in 2018 and the couple have built a family largely away from the frontline of royal public duties.
