King Charles' coronation hit with 'massive' blow as two stars won't sing at concert

Preparations are underway for King Charles III's coronation, but it's been reported that two major stars have turned down the chance to perform.

His Majesty has reportedly named a number of British musicians he would like to see at the coronation concert that will take place on May 7, just one day after the King's formal coronation ceremony.

Grammy award winner Adele has turned down the invitation, according to Mail on Sunday, due to having other commitments along with fellow Grammy and Brit award winner Ed Sheeran.

A source told the Mail on Sunday : "The King has suggested a number of people he would like to perform and Adele and Ed were on that list. He was very keen that they were part of the concert.

"There is a team set up to get the talent signed up so they approached the two of them, but got replies saying that they were unavailable, which was a massive disappointment. They are titans of the showbiz industry and are quintessentially British but also known across the globe. It's such a shame."

As the Daily Record writes, Ed Sheeran is touring throughout May and has dates scheduled for Texas, US on May 6. However, Adele has no published performances on the coronation dates May 6 and 7, with the last day of her Las Vegas residency taking place on March 25.

Other celebrities who could make an appearance include Harry Styles, Lionel Ritchie and even the Spice Girls.

It was previously reported that a source said that organisers are working to get the iconic girl band to reunite for a one off performance.

If confirmed, it will be the first time in over 10 years since members Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Mel Chisholm, Geri Halliwell and Emma Bunton take stage as a full group - last joining forces to sing at the 2012 Olympics closing ceremony in London.
