With both King Charles and Liz Truss only in their respective roles for a matter of weeks, it's hardly surprising to hear that the pair only had their first weekly audience together seven days ago at Buckingham Palace. But that one meeting will likely live long in the mind of many, simply because of the King's stinging comment to the Prime Minister, who has today resigned after only 44 days at No 10.
At the start of their first ever weekly audience, King Charles was filmed addressing Ms Truss with the words "So you've come back again? Dear oh dear, anyway..." as she was welcomed into the room at Buckingham Palace on October 13. It was only the third time the pair had met and already the new Prime Minister was at the centre of economic turmoil.
The Prime Minister could be seen doing an awkward curtsey as she greeted King Charles before shaking hands with the royal, the Mirror reports. Unsurprisingly, social media was quick to pick up on the cringeworthy exchange.
