- Kimberly Guilfoyle has officially resigned as President Donald Trump ’s Ambassador to Greece after she was accused of asking a donor to pay her $100,000 credit card bill.
- “Serving as the United States Ambassador to Greece has been the honor of a lifetime. I will forever be grateful to President Donald J. Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for entrusting me with the extraordinary privilege of representing the greatest country in the history of the world,” Guilfoyle wrote in a statement announcing her resignation Tuesday.
- Trump’s new press secretary said hours earlier that the White House had asked Guilfoyle to resign over the credit card bill scandal, which Guilfoyle has vowed to “vigorously defend” herself against.
- “I also want to address the recent allegations against me,” she wrote. “These allegations are false, and I intend to vigorously defend my name, my reputation, and my integrity. I have dedicated my professional life to fighting for justice, standing up for what is right, and defending the values that make America exceptional. I will not allow false accusations to define my decades of public service.”
- Trump said on Monday that he was “not happy” with Guilfoyle, who was previously engaged to his son Don Jr., and was “looking at” potentially firing her.
