Anticipation is climbing, celebrities have flocked to New York, and the countdown is officially on for 2023’s Met Gala on Monday night.
We now know for certain that Kim Kardashian is on this year’s guestlist. In the past two years she has dominated the Costume Institute Benefit’s red carpet: in a full-face masked, Balenciaga T-shirt dress in 2021, followed by Marylin Monore’s actual "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" dress (worn to serenade President John F Kennedy in 1962) in 2022. This year, the reality star and business mogul is dropping hints early as to what we might expect come Monday.
Taking to Instagram, Kardshian posted a carousel of Chanel-centric images in line with this year’s Met Gala theme Karl Lagerfeld: A Line Of Beauty, which will champion the late, great designer and former creative director of Chanel and Fendi. In an ornate bedroom, she posed up a storm with Choupette - Largerfeld’s much loved cat, who boasts 149,000 Instagram followers.
The extent of Choupette’s diva was revealed in a BBC Two documentary on the designer released this week, however. “She’s not a nice girl,” said Carine Roitfeld, previously editor of Vogue Paris and a friend of Lagerfeld’s. “Very jealous girl, Choupette, she’s a mean cat [...] she can bite, she can scratch.”
Thankfully it looked as if Kim got out unscathed, as she took the chance to snoop around Lagerfeld’s offices and glance over mood boards, “to get a little inspiration for the Met,” she said afterwards.
Does this mean we can expect Kardashian in a custom Chanel number come Monday? Or will she continue her headline-making streak with something altogether more scandalous. Time will only tell.
